Protecting Our ChildrenOne of the greatest responsibilities adults ever face is the protection of children under their care. That is a duty that falls heavily upon those who minister in the name of the Church because children are entrusted to us in so many ways – in schools, in religious education, in Scouting, on field trips and in sports. Parents have a right to expect that their children are as safe as humanly possible in all of these situations.

The Archdiocesan Decree on Child Protection requires that all employees and volunteers who have regular contact with children attend a VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children for Adults session and complete a favorable criminal background check before working or volunteering with children. Session participants must register with VIRTUS ONLINE, http://www.virtusonline.org, before attending a child abuse awareness session. After attending a training session participants must log onto the VIRTUS website and read monthly articles. The schedule for the Protecting God's Children sessions can be found on the VIRTUS website. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to attend.
